Jessica and Nicole believe they have discovered their sanctuary on the rugged coast of the West of Ireland. 17 Montpellier Street is a sprawling, atmospheric dream home that promises a fresh start for the couple. However, the house holds more than just character; it harbors the suffocating weight of a dark, institutional history. Beneath the floorboards and within the hollow walls, the echoes of girls once imprisoned by the church still linger, waiting for someone to bear witness to their suffering.
This haunting ghost story masterfully weaves queer horror with a chilling exploration of buried trauma. As the couple settles in, the line between their new life and the house’s tragic past begins to dissolve. The spirits trapped within these walls are not merely shadows; they are active participants in a cycle of relived terror. What starts as a dream move quickly devolves into a nightmare where sleep becomes a luxury they can no longer afford.
Perfect for fans of atmospheric, character-driven dread, this novel offers a poignant look at love tested by the supernatural. If you crave a story that balances emotional depth with spine-tingling paranormal encounters, this is your next obsession. Prepare to be kept awake by a house that refuses to let its secrets die.

Moving home can be stressful, but moving into your dream home should remove some of the burden, or so you would think. Jessica and Nicole seem to be handling it all very well, thanks in large part to their helpful neighbor, Susan, but it doesn't stay that way for long. Set in Ireland, Awake in the Night features a fabulous set of characters, some of whom are in present day, while other are echoes from the past looking to intrude into the modern world. This is a haunted house story with a heart...

Someone recommended this book when I asked about a book similar to Stolen Tongues. This was definitely not what I would consider similar, but still a good read. The book definitely gives off Season 1 American Horror Story vibes in the sense of the theme is very similar. I enjoyed the backstory and build up of the book. ) One person found this helpful

I wasn’t sure what to expect when picking up this book, but once I did I couldn’t get enough of it. It was enticing and fast paced all the way through. I’ve been exploring more of the horror genre and always been drawn to good old fashioned haunted house stories. This book does the job with creepy rocking chairs, blood, gore, and what it means to live with grief. Definitely recommend this if you’re a busy person and need something fast and fun to read. ) One person found this helpful

I read the prologue and I thought I was I was hooked. In reading, my opinion changes. It's not scary at all. Just ghosts visiting the living. I thought the story was sad. I'm sure ideas were based on real events. Psychology was based on a lot of old ideas. Women were often caught in the middle of it. These young girls and women were the victims of a madman. The story was upsetting because it's so believable. Pregnant women, run aways, and the unwanted were the victims. I was truly looking a...

This book was so full of sorrow. The 1955 timeline explore a dark and gruesome chapter in Ireland's history, and what made it especially harrowing was how closely events mirrored reality for so many vulnerable women and children of that time. I also did not expect the twist in the second half of the novel, and thought it was very well executed. As the novel drew to a close, it gave so many chances for the characters to heal. In the end, it was so comforting to see all of these women finding...
