Sometimes you need a little help…from the other side.
After being permanently injured on the job, Crime Scene Investigator Victoria Fanning was forced into an early retirement. When her twin brother is promoted to chief of police back in their hometown, he wants her on his team, regardless of her handicap. She agrees to go on retainer for two weeks, but she doesn’t realize how much she missed the job, and her brother, until she gets there.
The previous investigator, Jackson Mullen, was killed on the job, but Vic is impressed by the lab he set up and his reputation. They realize they have a lot in common, similar ideals and purpose, and Vic enjoys having Jack’s help on her first case, an elderly woman shot with a Revolutionary era weapon. But is she getting too close to Jack? Too reliant?
She realizes that she has a tough decision to make. If she’s to have any kind of personal life, any type of future, Jack can’t be a part of it.
That decision is soon taken out of her hands.
