A Forever Unrooting of Jade and Hickory (The Rooted Realm)

by A.A. Lewis
In the gaslit streets of late 1800s New Orleans, a simple dockhand named Josiah Planter finds his fate irrevocably altered when he falls for the mysterious Celeste Boudreaux. Their attraction is an instant, forbidden-love affair that defies the ancient, dark magic of Celeste’s conjurer bloodline. But in a city built on secrets and shadows, passion comes with a lethal price. After a devastating betrayal, Josiah is transformed into a soul-devouring incubus, cursed to wander the French Quarter as The Whistler.
He is a creature caught between two worlds, driven by an insatiable, erotic obsession that threatens to consume what remains of his humanity. Every time he lures a victim with his haunting, seductive melody, he loses a piece of his soul, desperate to find a way to break the agonizing supernatural tether that binds him to his tragic past.
This paranormal historical romance is a masterclass in atmospheric dread and forbidden desire. A.A. Lewis weaves a chilling, sensory-rich tale that bridges the gap between gothic horror and heart-wrenching romance. If you are looking for a dark, sprawling epic that explores the blurred lines between man and monster, this haunting story will stay with you long after the final note fades.

This novel was absolutely brilliant! There’s nothing I can say without giving anything away but I will say this. To say this author isn’t from New Orleans she did an AMAZING job writing this tale. I truly enjoyed reading about The Whistler and to answer one of the questions… if the whistler came to me in the state of mind I’m in at this moment I would do my best to fight and not respond. My life isn’t perfect but I have a son & grandchildren to watch grow into young men and women. I want to be...

This was long 80 chapters but I devoured this story of Josiah and Celeste a laborer and a Witch. What a ride over centuries to break a curse placed by a angry bitter associate of Josiah. After countless victims The Whistler finally finds his one true love and dark magic comes back and seeks revenge on the associate who created the curse. I enjoyed this story very much. ) One person found this helpful

The whistler was every thing I hoped it would be. I enjoyed the whole storyline and how it came full circle. The Louisiana feel, darkness, mystery and love. Josiah is the whistler who is fighting to hold on to his former self as well as the love he lost. The whistler goes from past, future and present making it flow very well and connect all of the pieces, I really liked this and even though it ended well I would like to see what became of Maristelle. ) One person found this helpful

There are few authors who can write a story that draws out so many emotions from a reader. A A Lewis is one such gifted author and The Whistler is such a haunting, beautiful example. The writing evokes the poetry and mystery of New Orleans in its lyrical prose and beautiful descriptions. This is a story that spans generations and takes the opportunity to show the many layers of the mystical. This is not a typical ghost story and therein lies the beauty. Josiah and Celeste are the lovers in this...
