Hunt Me Softly: A Dark Academia Romance

by Raven Flanagan

About this book

Escaping a family scandal, Ophelia Ashcroft arrives at the fog-drenched campus of Kilbride University seeking nothing but a quiet degree. She expects rigorous academics, not a string of gruesome murders or the unsettling feeling of being watched from the shadows. As the body count rises, Ophelia finds herself drawn into the orbit of Professor Luther Quinn, an enigmatic man whose intensity is as magnetic as it is dangerous.

This dark academia romance masterfully blends high-stakes mystery with a simmering, slow-burn tension that defines the genre. As their connection deepens, the line between academic interest and primal obsession blurs. Luther’s protectiveness quickly shifts into something far more possessive, forcing Ophelia to question if he is her ultimate sanctuary or the most terrifying threat of all.

For readers craving a paranormal romance where the stakes are life and death, this story delivers a visceral, atmospheric experience. With an alpha-hero whose motives remain shrouded in shadow and ancient, demonic forces hunting from the periphery, the narrative pulls you into a world where desire is a trap. Will Ophelia surrender to the man who covets her soul, or will the monsters in the dark claim her first?

Starts off strong, then kinda drops off

I love this author’s style of writing, it’s definitely good for when they write fantasy. So I felt this helped give off the proper gloomy spooky vibes for the setting. I felt as a whole, the fmc started off fairly strong but by the end was borderline insufferable, and the ending felt a bit rushed. That brooding professor with the ocean eyes though definitely was carrying this story, and the spice was spicing. Overall not a bad quick read )
