A Forever Unrooting of Jade and Hickory (The Rooted Realm)

Salem expected a tropical honeymoon, but destiny had other plans. Stranded on the mist-shrouded, gothic grounds of Balfour Manor, she finds herself trapped in the Pacific Northwest with Rayne, a woman whose allure is as dangerous as the secrets buried within her ancestral home. What begins as a chance encounter quickly spirals into a high-stakes game of survival as a gruesome murder unmasks the island’s true, terrifying nature.
This sapphic urban fantasy masterfully blends bone-chilling supernatural suspense with an intoxicating slow-burn romance. As crimson shadows stalk the halls and something ancient hunts them through the forest, the forced proximity between Salem and Rayne ignites a forbidden passion that feels both like a sanctuary and a death sentence. The atmosphere is thick with dread, yet the connection between the two women provides a desperate, glowing tether in the dark.
Harley Laroux delivers a hauntingly beautiful tale where otherworldly horrors collide with raw, visceral desire. If you crave a dark, atmospheric read that balances heart-pounding terror with a deeply emotional, spicy love story, this standalone is the perfect addition to your shelf. Prepare to get lost in the shadows of Blackridge Island, where the only thing more lethal than the monster is the truth.

This is the first of Harley Laroux’s books I’ve ever read. That being said I wasn’t sure what to expect. Laroux is a story teller unlike any other I have encountered. They write in such a way that the words are literally felt on every level of your own self, body, mind, soul, both visually and emotionally. This book is dark in a different and unique way. The suspense, the love, the fear, and the relief were all so realistic. They actually wrote as though they personally understood what anxiety...

I usually do not write reviews, unless books are exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. This book wasn't either. Mediocre is the word that comes to mind. I had high hopes. But honestly, for me, it felt like the story was originally a heterosexual story that was changed into a sapphic one after completion. Which is fine but annoying. ) 2 people found this helpful
