Higher Demon: The Collective, Book 1

by Louisa Masters

About this book

For generations, the Collective has served as humanity’s final line of defense against the demonic. But after a catastrophic betrayal tore the organization apart, the survivors have been forced to do the unthinkable: form an alliance with their sworn enemies. Enter Marc, a hoodie-loving archivist who finds himself thrust into the role of liaison to the demon ambassador. It is a position he never asked for and is entirely unprepared to handle.

The ambassador is a pretentious, powerful, and infuriatingly arrogant higher demon who could end Marc’s life with a single thought. This enemies-to-lovers tale crackles with tension as the two are forced into an uneasy proximity. What begins as a nightmare of mutual distrust slowly shifts into something far more dangerous. As they navigate the fallout of the Collective's shattered past, Marc discovers that his greatest challenge isn't surviving the demons, but resisting the growing pull of the man—or monster—he is meant to despise.

Perfect for fans of paranormal romance, this story delivers a sharp, humorous take on the star-crossed lovers trope. With a second-chance narrative that builds on a rich, supernatural world, this gripping start to a new series is a must-read for anyone craving high stakes and a guaranteed happy ending.

Humorous, Demonic Romeo & Juliet with a Happy Ending and an HEA

April 12, 2024

A couple of years ago, a character named Connor told a story about a (then unnamed) demon who nearly killed him and his younger brother. We readers learned that one of the most terrifying entities in the “Ghostly Guardians” universe let two humans live because twelve-year-old Ian attacked the demon with flowers and insults. I wanted to know more. I didn’t want that one tiny story to be the end of Ian and the demon’s interactions. At first, I assumed I’d have to just get over it, but in “Conduit...

Higher Demon is a good start to The Collective series. It was great seeing characters from the previous series and watching them interact with Marc and Ian. I do recommend reading the Ghostly Guardians series before starting this book. The first half of the book picked up a lot of information from that series. There is also a lot of awkward and humorous\"getting to know you\" time between Ian and Marc. But things really picked up after that point. Seeing Marc in his natural environment was...

Another fantastic read from Louisa !

Higher Demon takes places several years after the events of the Ghostly Guardians series - you do not need to have read that series 1st to enjoy this book but we do get the first glimpse of Ian and Marc (something does happen that kinda of sets the precedenc for a relationship between them) at the climax of Ghostly Guardians. I Loved This story! Not only is it a great continuation of the world of Ghostly Guardians- it had just about everything. It was funny, (so funny- I was giggling at pg 1)...

Love Marc!

After seeing them in Gateway Catastrophe, I have always wondered about their chemistry. I had been looking forward to reading this fantasy book for some time, and as I anticipated, I was utterly blown away by the story. I loved the banter between Ian and Marc and Ian's bond with Matt. It was delightful to see Charlie and Liam in this story. Marc's relationship with Ian was fantastic, and it developed from a situationship into a full-blown bonded relationship. Connor's overprotectiveness and...

Great continuation

I am so glad I read the books in order so that you know what was going on. If you read this book out of context, you will be like huh? What? I even read the one at college with Liam and Charles in it so it all connected. Mark is hilarious and I loved him in the last Demon hunters books. Would you really should read before this one . )
