A Forever Unrooting of Jade and Hickory (The Rooted Realm)

by Lacey Lehotzky
A brutal war between angels and demons has raged for a decade, leaving the demonic realm on the brink of total collapse. Standing as the only bulwark against extinction is Rokath, a merciless general with the terrifying ability to command the dead. As a dark prophecy regarding a woman with eyes of devious burgundy begins to stir, the realm is gripped by plague and forced conscription.
Assyria is a woman trapped in a suffocating, abusive marriage, hiding a rare and dangerous magic beneath a veil. When a violent confrontation leaves her husband dead and her life in ruins, she makes a desperate choice: she assumes his identity and infiltrates the front lines of the demonic army. Surrounded by the very soldiers who destroyed her past, she must navigate a world of lethal secrets and rigid oppression, all while evading the piercing, sinister gaze of the general himself.
This dark fantasy is a masterclass in tension, blending high-stakes warfare with a slow-burn romance that simmers with forbidden intensity. If you crave atmospheric world-building, morally grey anti-heroes, and a heroine fighting for agency in a cruel landscape, this is the gripping paranormal read you have been waiting for.

Loved it! It was dark, it was devious, and it was deadly! I enjoyed this new dark fantasy world that was in the mist of a fierce battle between angels and demons. This book wasn’t a typical enemies to lovers situation it was so much more! I enjoyed the world building and the whole culture that was seen with the demons and their beliefs. I liked how the book wasn’t solely focus on the battle between the angels but also the social injustices and other issues within. Assyria, the main character,...

I loved this book. The plot, the multi povs, the emotion it elicited from me. I could have done without the interludes, just because I felt they dragged the book out more than they provided valuable information to the story line. I felt it took quite awhile for it to really pick up, but once it did it was fantastic. As an avid reader of paranormal romance novels, this would definitely be a book I'd recommend others with the same love for the genre to read. Very well written! Thank you Lacey! I...

If you’re a fan of Carissa Broadbent you’ll definitely love this series as well! A tad but darker and spicier. The world building is phenomenal as are the levels of the characters powers. The plot is so interesting and I’m looking forward to seeing it develop into the second duet in the series. ) One person found this helpful

The books was fun and decently paced. The female character was also fun, but I was a bit disappointed when she played the damsel in distress and didn't use her cool powers to save herself. Instead she waited to be saved. I wish she found a way to at least help herself to be saved and that her powers played a larger part in her later story. It would have made things much more fun. )

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought it was fast paced with a few surprises along the way. I liked all the characters and I especially loved the banter between the FMC and MMC throughout the second half of the book. And Grem and Zeek!! )
