A Forever Unrooting of Jade and Hickory (The Rooted Realm)

by Opal Reyne
Delora wanted nothing more than to vanish, but falling into the treacherous Veil was supposed to be the end. Instead, she awakens in the clutches of a faceless, terrifying Duskwalker. He is a creature of shadow and instinct, a monster who has spent his existence craving the humanity he lacks. When a broken human literally falls into his life, he shifts his focus from survival to salvation, determined to nurse her back to health even if he cannot mend the invisible scars on her soul.
This second installment of the Duskwalker Brides series is a masterclass in monster romance, blending dark atmosphere with a tender, slow-burn connection. As the pair navigates their forced proximity, the enemies-to-lovers dynamic crackles with tension and genuine discovery. Readers will delight in the thoughtful characterization, particularly the inclusion of a plus-sized heroine whose journey toward self-worth is as compelling as the supernatural stakes.
Opal Reyne weaves a lush, fantastical world where the line between predator and protector blurs. If you are looking for a paranormal romance that balances high-stakes danger with deeply emotional intimacy, this is your next obsession. Prepare to be enchanted by a love story that proves even the most monstrous hearts can learn to heal.

I’m only 2 in, but I really have enjoyed both of these books in the series. The first one laid the groundwork for these mysterious Duskwalkers, and while Orpheus and Reia make multiple appearances in this one, they’re not overly saturated in it which is both good and bad. There were a couple instances I wished they were around to help our leads with certain things (2 very primary things: Without giving away too much, how to safely enjoy themselves, and the Demon King’s confrontation), but I...

So I was drawn to this series by seeing the cover art of this second book. A cute plus size girl, hell yeah! I've never seen one on the cover of any book. The one next to her reminded me of Elias from ancient magus bride, one of my all time favorite mangas and anime. Immediately went and downloaded both books in the series. Review: The good- I absolutely adore the characters of the duskwalkers. Magnar especially since his awkwardness and silliness were so endearing. Dolora was great too and I...

Always the perfect balance of well-developed characters, emotions, plot, and steamy romance. . As punishment for her crimes, Delora is...

3.895… Off bat, Delora being super emo touches something way deep inside my bones. It was too relatable (minus the whole murder thing). And at times, her sadness made it difficult to read. The reason is that reading, for me, is supposed to be an act of escapism, and reading about her depression was way too damn real at times. However, I appreciated the story all the same. The story starts with our dear Delora literally falling from the sky on the very sweet himbo Mavka from the first book. He’s...

First off, there are a few triggers in this story. It isn't a dark based story, but there are some things that may be a limit for some. ⚠️ I absolutely loved learning about Orpheus and Reia in the last book, about their adventures of healing the anger and sorrow, getting a glimpse of the deep tale of the post apocalyptic world surrounded by demons, monsters and magic. But to find there being so much more? I devoured this book with a yearning for more. Delora had been thrown into the depths of...
