Curse in the Quarter (Bourbon Street Shadows Book 1)

by Heidi McLaughlin

About this book

New Orleans is a city where ghosts linger and the veil between worlds is dangerously thin. Bastien Durand, a fallen angel walking the rain-slicked streets of the French Quarter, knows this better than anyone. As a supernatural investigator, he has spent over a century masking his immortality behind a veil of cynicism. But when ancient, dark magic begins to stir, the past he has fought to bury comes crashing into the present.

The catalyst is a brilliant, unsuspecting librarian who possesses eyes Bastien has been haunted by for lifetimes. Though she has no recollection of their shared history, she holds the key to unlocking secrets that could shatter the fragile balance of the city’s supernatural factions. As they are forced together, a tense enemies-to-lovers dynamic ignites, fueled by a slow-burn attraction that is as perilous as it is inevitable.

This atmospheric urban fantasy weaves a complex tapestry of historical intrigue and celestial stakes. For readers who crave sweeping, multi-century romances and moody paranormal mysteries, this story delivers a captivating look at love that refuses to die. Prepare to get lost in the shadows of Bourbon Street, where some curses are stronger than death and salvation carries a devastating price.

Time Span

If you enjoy books that span centuries and you like trying to map out timelines while reading; this is so up your alley. Personally, I got a little lost in the back and forth and up and down of the book. Although, I do love the premise of a love that transcends all; even death. However, I felt my brain get a little jumbled. Though I will say that I love the way the characters are written and the way the supernaturals were portrayed like it was an everyday thing instead of a phenomenon. It might...

They got me so good!

I’m already familiar with Amy Briggs, and was so excited to see her pair up for a paranormal anything. I read the pre-quel novella first, so I was already swooning over Bastien. Then I read Curse in the Quarter…and found myself cursing HIM in all the best ways. The torturous inner monologue was almost too much. As pieces fall into place and parts of the history come together, I genuinely wanted to shake him at times…because WHY?! You are a masterfully intelligent, tortured soul! Well, I found...

Loved it!

The whole book held my attention until the end. The FMC and MMC were definitely written for each other. I can’t wait to be able to read the send book!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. )

Addictive, Exciting, Full of Everything Paranormal

My goosebumps have goosebumps. After reading The Borrowed Saint I thought I was prepared for anything Curse in the Quarter threw at me. Wrong!!! Things that usually go bump in the night are going BOOM as Bastien tries to bring the past into the present while trying to prevent the unthinkable. I couldn't put down Curse in the Quarter. I didn't want to put it down. With every revelation, with ever paranormal creature, I sank deeper and deeper into the New Orleans underbelly. The veil is thinning....

Great supernatural love story with just enough mystery

A fallen angel and a love that spans lifetimes? Set in New Orleans? Witches, fae, vampires, werewolves, and all other manner of supernatural creatures? Well sign me up! (That's exactly what I did when I requested an advance copy of this). As a long time resident of New Orleans and native Louisianian, I'm very careful with books set in the place I call home and will be the first to complain about something anachronistic or out of place. While the Saenger never burned down, I'm able to accept...
